The .nu domain provides funds for local services for the island state of Niue. .nu helps to fund essential technology and infrastructure. Specifically, it helps fund the island’s internet capabilities, provides complimentary pc’s, and internet connections to all residents. In 2003 it established free WiFi hotspots in various locations throughout Niue and now claims to be the first “WiFi Nation.” In August 2008, officials of the island reported that all children of the island who attend primary school and high-school had “green” laptops as part of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program.

Niue is an island located in the South Pacific Ocean 2400 kilometers northeast of New Zealand and its people (1,492 as of 2007) are predominantly English speaking Polynesians.
